Our Tinkering Station

After participating a Professional Development course, ‘Establishing a Tinkering Space’ by Jeff Johnson; we decided to create a Tinkering Station was because it allows children to have a different opportunity to explore a whole range of mediums to be able to create their ideas into a masterpiece or to be able to discover how things work through dismantling different items.
For us here at Eskay Kids-Karana, our Tinkering Station is an area for dismantling old appliances with screw drivers, using hammers and hacksaws to create out of wood offcuts and doing 3D box construction from donated recyclable items, with the hope of introducing more as we continue our journey.
Tinkering is great for problem solving, improving fine and gross motor skills, communication, creativity, imagination, concentration, and following safety rules.
